Resolution Supporting Our Party Platform by Opposing Legalized Gambling and the Establishment of a State Gaming Commission
WHEREAS, several bills currently pending before the South Carolina General Assembly,
including H.4176, H.3625, and S.444, seek to legalize and expand various forms of casinostyle
gambling within the state; and
WHEREAS, experience from other states and jurisdictions has shown that legalized casino
gambling is frequently accompanied by a range of social and economic harms, including
increased rates of gambling addiction, substance abuse, crime, sex trafficking, and significant
financial hardship for vulnerable populations; and
WHEREAS, such consequences often result in increased demands on public resources,
including law enforcement, emergency services, infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and
social services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the members of the Lexington County
Republican Party, in alignment with the South Carolina Republican Party Platform, firmly
oppose the legalization of casino gambling in our state;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we specifically oppose the passage of H.4176,
H.3625, and S.444, and urge all members of the Lexington County Legislative Delegation to
reject these and any similar measures that would authorize or facilitate expanding legalized
gambling in South Carolina.
